PODCAST: The meticulously detailed preparation of an endurance athlete

He just returned from the Marathon des Sables and already has his sights set on the Ironman World Championship, which will take place in Utah, USA, in October this year, as well as several other competitions that will be held during the summer. How do you prepare for a 250 km self-sufficient race in the desert? How do you recover from it? What comes after such an achievement? Carlos Vives, with the support of Glucovibes, took on this legendary desert marathon and came back eager for more. Discover in this podcast how meticulously a professional endurance athlete prepares, while also managing his own business and a large family.

You don’t achieve a 22nd place out of 1068 participants by leaving things to chance. “You can’t leave anything to improvisation in these kinds of events, especially not your nutrition.” Vives trained his body and mind to endure these seven days of intense performance, and at Glucovibes, we witnessed his personal growth, both during the training camp he attended in Lanzarote under conditions similar to those he would face in the desert, and in his daily professional and personal life, including eating with his family.

He also shares his experience with Glucovibes and the direct support from our team of nutritionists: “I wanted something close, a local company where I could have personal contact with people, through email, WhatsApp, and receive personalized attention, without having to analyze the data on my own.” His goal was to see how his body would react to conditions similar to those in the desert: freeze-dried food, very limited portions, and minimal rest, at best. “I used it at the Lanzarote Camp to test whether the planned diet was adequate, to ensure there were no caloric or glycemic deficits.”

Carlos Vives, known as @ironvives on social media, embodies the #Viber profile we most enjoy at Glucovibes: motivated, goal-oriented, and eager to discover and learn how his body functions under all conditions. If you’re as excited as we are to find out what his next challenges are and how he fared in this last one, listen to our podcast and become a top #Viber yourself.
